This year, Interactive Media students taught by Luciana Parisi and Graham Harwood have been engaging in Moving Forest led by International Artist Shu Lea Cheang. Students have been prototyping for Moving Forest through acts of mass insurgency speculatively planned around the London Olympics.

This remarkable assemblage of interventions comprised operatics based on Matthew Fuller’s libretto, 500 hundred slogans, Pure Data workshops by Marc Widmer & Jonas Ohrstrom (Zurich), prophetic witchcraft from Irational.org’s Kale Brandon and Rachel Baker. Along with input and coordination from Furtherfield.org, The Victoria & Albert Museum, Space studios, London.

Spain and International/ It is left open without restrictions a call to select, by means of a criteria in which will be valued particularly the quality, the experimentation, the innovation and the risk, the creations of all those audio-visual artists who wish that their works are promoted and broadcast through the independent program Transfera and MADATAC04.

The content of the TV program Transfera is exclusively dedicated to divulge Video Art and Audio Visual Art in all its modalities (any processes of image-sound interaction, without exclusion of the experimental cinema), with the aim to disclose to the great public a view of the consolidated video artists and offer a platform for all those emergent video artists with a future projection who contribute with renewing proposals, avoid conventional visual language and does not find their place in other mass media spaces.

Due to the difficult challenge that supposes to mantain a project of this spread, destined essentially to compensate the well-known mediatic absence, the relation with the artists will be based on a principle of promotion and visibility, a guideline directed to strengthen the sustainability of the program. However, all the received material will enter, unless the authors express the contrary, in the selection for the IV Edition of MADATAC, the Contemporary Audio-Visual & New Media Arts Festival, that Transfera organize on December12th, 2012 in Madrid, Spain. This event will serve to prize the best videos among the selected and emitted in the program during the related period, as a compensation for their participation:

METRÓPOLIS AWARDS

The well-known TV programme Metrópolis (shown on Channel 2 of Spanish public television) will select and award works from the Official Section, totalling 27 minutes. Winning artists will be paid €100 per minute for broadcasting rights and the winning videos will be shown in a special programme dedicated to MADATAC to be broadcast on TVE2 at the end of the festival.

TRANSFERA AWARDS

MADATAC and the auction house, Subastas Segre, will select three preselected pieces from the Official Sections, to be sold at public auction at 18, Calle Segre, Madrid. The works will be exhibited during some weeks until the auction day and the starting price will be around 350€-400€ for editions of 3 copies on DVD. Artists will receive the final sale price less a percentage commission for administration and sale fees.

Participants must send their works, preferable not to exceed the 20’ although we made exceptions if the video merits it, in a PAL DVD, or uncompressed mpeg or mov files (at least 720×576 16:9 resolution, preferably HD), with quality for broadcasting, spanish/english subtitles if needed, two jpg stills of the video, a brief CV and a filled and signed form agreement for broadcast permission.

The interested can also send a brief promotional video statement about themselves and their work (not more than 4 minutes long), that will be included on Transfera TV as an artist presentation.

There are not restrictions for the age of all the participants around the world, nor for the amount of material desired to send.

There is no criteria as to the subject of the works, though the IV edition of MADATAC will give preponderance to the concept: CYBORGS AND AUDIOVISUAL ART FOR THE END OF THE TIMES

We only ask that the submitted works will not be shown or prized in any other festival celebrated at least 3 months before, or at the same time that MADATAC takes place, as to maintain the uniqueness of the work.

Transfera cannot return the sent material.

Participation in this project implies the acceptance of all its rules.

Northumbria and Sunderland Universities operate a collaborative AHRC Block Grant Partnership to support quality research and professional training in the Arts & Humanities. Studentships cover stipend and fees subject to eligibility criteria, and are available for uptake from September/October 2012.

The successful candidate will join an Art and Design research area judged to have World-Leading and Internationally Significant research outputs in the recent Research Assessment Exercise, and with particular experience of Practice-Led research.

The successful candidate will join a curating research area CRUMB, judged to have World-Leading research outputs, and with a history of research partners including BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art, Eyebeam Art and Technology Center (New York) and Lancaster University. To enable interdisciplinary research, CRUMB collaborates with supervisors from research areas in Design (including Design4Science), Photography, Video and Digital Imaging, and Computing. Research proposals are therefore welcome on any of a range of current issues for curating art, and are welcomed whether they address new media art, or other forms of contemporary art or design.

Works which use new media invite a questioning of materiality, space and time, through their use of networks, interactivity, participation, internationalism, and generative processes. These characteristics can also inform the wider field of contemporary art and design, including live art, design, and socially-engaged art, and so offer exciting opportunities to rethink the ways in which curators work. Research proposals are welcome on any of a range of current issues for curating art – including the work’s production, exhibition, reception, documentation and historicisation.

Washington project for the Arts is currently accepting submissions open calls as part of Experimental Media 2012. A space of hybridity can assimilate potentially any set of concepts. SCANZ2013 3rdNature seeks to develop a fresh space, carrying memes from previous SCANZ events (which have all had an emphasis on environment) and other Intercreate projects that have involved scientists, indigenous peoples and artists working together. We are aiming to build new knowledge and establish legacies around this work, unencumbered by old perspectives and distant categories.

We ignore the environmental crisis at our own peril. Integrating the indigenous perspective, creative environmental and scientific views on the environment is essential for continued human habitation of the planet. From these trajectories it is possible to conceive of a fresh hybrid space, composed of overlapping elements.

We ask tangata whenua, artists, technologists, teachers, environmentalists, scientists, philosophers, educationalists, indigenous peoples, technologists and lecturers to contact us with ideas for talks, discussions, presentations, residency projects, exhibition ideas for gallery space and a botanic garden. And to join us on the weekend of January 1st- 3rd, 2013 at a hui to share knowledge and build resources.

Call
This is a call for project concepts for the fourth SCANZ residency to be held in New Plymouth, New Zealand early in 2013. Planned are: a two week residency and Open Lab beginning with a one night stay over at historic Owae marae, an exhibition at Puke Ariki museum, four projects in a local botanic garden, a Pecha Kucha night and a three day symposium with a presentation evening on the middle night.

3rd NAURE THEMES
This project involves creativity and innovation at the intersection of three critical interfaces:
*Acknowledging the environmental crisis
*Engaging with Maori and indigenous peoples
*Engaging the Sciences and Hybrid Arts

These three intersecting dialogues together provide space for a 3rd Nature, a fresh space for engaging with new knowledge and approaches vital to a sustainable civilisation.

3rd Nature application process
A two-stage process will be used. The first involves developing a blog by the applicant. If the project concept succeeds at this first stage, a letter of confirmation will be sent to enable fundraising. A first selection of projects is expected by the end of January 2012. The second stage involves a more detailed level of information. Projects that have passed stage one of the processes will be invited to submit more detailed application at a later date, which can include requests for part funding.

Write a project description (max 500 words) of your proposed work for SCANZ 2013 3rd Nature.

2. Image
Provide a high quality image. The blog site may restrict you to 800 pixels wide. This image can be optimized for the web. The image need not be directly from the proposed project, which may be in development, but it should be representative of your activity working with similar themes. If your application passes the first stage, at a later stage you may be requested for a higher resolution print-ready image.

3. Relevance
In 500 words maximum, explain the relevance of your idea by either discussing your project in relation to one or more of the three themes. -Acknowledging the environmental crisis;Engaging with Maori and indigenous peoples; Engaging with Earth Sciences and the Hybrid Arts
Or:
Discuss the way your project contributes to a fresh space for engaging with new knowledge and approaches important to a sustainable civilisation.

4. Outputs
What are the potential outputs of your project? Select as appropriate: Exhibition, Workshop, Symposium, Presentation Evening, Open. Stating options does not at this stage guarantee acceptance.
There are six places for exhibition at Puke Ariki, the local integrated museum and library, In addition there are four proposed places at a local botanic garden which has botanical and network resources including a data sensor network connected to an Open Mesh box.
The residency will also involve an Open Lab, for residency participants to share and collaborate (interested members of the public are welcome). At this time two workshops are proposed, one involving low cost electronics, and second involving wind powered art.
A presentation evening is planned on the final Saturday of the residency and a three day hui symposium will be held also over the final weekend.
5. CV and bio (one page)

Provide a one to two paragraph biography (in the third person) followed by your selection of career highlights in the form of CV. When copy and pasted, the Bio and CV should not exceed an A4 or US letter page. You can either simply refer to the last few years, or a range of years.
